For the last nine (9) years Royal Life Saving Western Australia has taken a leadership role in the collection of injury reports and the establishment of safety benchmarks for public aquatic centres. The collection of this data and its presentation to LIWA Aquatics members on a yearly basis has greatly assisted in reducing the number of incidents / accidents that occur in the aquatic environment.

The final report of the three year aquatic industry research project funded by the Department of Sport and Recreation is now complete. As you can see it not only compares pools in their regions but also by the type of facility and the services they offer to the community.

As we approach Conference time it is also a time for members to pay there annual subscriptions that are associated with membership and accreditation. LIWA Aquatics continues to support the industry through its contributions to Watch Around Water, your industry journal Aquatic Recreation Australia and of course our regional seminars. These projects can only be sustained through membership and accreditations fees, and they are now due!

Findings of QLD Inquest

Important information for all LIWA Aquatics Members
The comments below come from the findings of an inquest into the drowning of a young child at Rockhampton Pool in January 2007.
"These findings seek to explain, as far as possible, how this child's death occurred on 4th January 2007. The child drowned at a public pool after attempting to use a large inflatable device in the deep end of the pool.
Following the court hearing the evidence in this matter where learning's can be made to improve safety, changes to industry practice may be recommended with a view to reducing the likelihood of a similar incident occurring in future."
Water Corporation Data Logging Trial Results

The results of the first stage of LIWA Aquatics engagement and trial data logging of 13 aquatic facilities with the Water Corporation have now been completed. As you read the report you will find the results very interesting as it provides a snapshot of the water use and in some cases the very inefficient use of water in aquatic industry across Western Australia.
