The Leisure Institute of Western Australia (Aquatics) is a non-profit organisation that has been providing support, professional development and networking opportunities for individuals who are involved in the aquatic industry throughout Western Australia for over 40 years.

LIWA Aquatics strategic plan has been developed with a focus on the following key strategies to ensure that the industry in Western Australia is engaged and consulted on a wide range of issues:

Professional Development

• Well trained aquatic industry personnel will ensure aquatic facilities are operated in accordance with the Health Department Code of Practice and Best Practice Principles

Accreditation

• Legalisation requires all aquatic industry personnel are accredited to LIWA Aquatics and have access to relevant professional development

Professional Development Opportunities

• The provision of professional development in metropolitan and regional Western Australia to ensure a well trained and resourced industry

Governance

• The delivery of effective governance and management of the Institute in line with legislative requirements

Financial Strategies

• To ensure the Institute is a viable financial entity which can support its membership, its programs and partnerships

The LIWA Aquatics Executive Board consists of a wide range of industry professionals including local government officers and private sector individuals who manage both large and small metropolitan aquatic and regional recreation facilities.

LIWA Aquatics works closely and has long term partnerships with Future Now, the Royal Life Saving Society, the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Western Australian Health Department. The Institute is involved in a range of research projects that impact on the operation and long term sustainability of the aquatic recreation sector including:

• Water Usage in Aquatic Facilities in partnership with the DSR, Water Corporation, Curtin University and the Royal Life Saving Society.
• The development of an on-line aquatic directory for Western Australian Facilities to include usage data, staff and patron numbers.

LIWA Aquatics supports the industry and provides a vital service to the aquatic facility managers across Western Australia.
