AVP Lifeguard Challenge – Beatty Park on Top

The 2010 Pool Lifeguard Challenge sponsored by AVP Commercial Pools and LIWA Aquatics     was conducted on the 18th of February at Challenge Stadium.  The VenuesWest staff did a great job in configuring the 10 lane pool into two 25 meter segments for the event.  The pool, which was upgraded to 51 meters in late 2007 by AVP Commercial Pools to facilitate the installation of a boom, looked beautiful. Second Aquatic Recreation Australia Journal

Our second industry journal is now with the publishers and will delivered across Australia in the next couple of weeks.  The feedback from edition one was very positive and it is hoped that the journal will, in the long term reach every pool and manager in Australia.

This edition has been very well supported by our industry contacts on the East Coast and certainly has a more national flavour than the first.  Once the magazine gains traction it will be a great vehicle for our industry to promote itself and its programs.  So please send any contributions you think may be newsworthy to executiveofficer@liwaaquatics.net.au

This editions is focus is wide ranging and looks at a diverse range of topics including, communication, managing workplace conflict, staff retention and developing technology.

Watch your post box in coming weeks!

Launch of the Generic Operations Manual and New Audit Process

The offical launch of the eagerly awaited Operations Manual and Safety Audit Process will take place at 10.30am on Friday 5th of March at the Royal Life Saving Society Western Australia's Head Office at Mount Claremont.

With the introduction of the Western Australian Code of Practice for Aquatic Facilities it has become a legislative requirement for every facility to have an Operations Manual.  Section 7.8 of the Code ‘Operations Manuals and Emergency Action Plans’ stipulates the requirements for every facility to have a discrete plan in place to both operate plant and equipment and to deal with an emergency situation.

Please confirm your attendance by email  executiveofficer@liwaaquatics.net.au as soon as possible.

Katanning Officially Open by Minister of Sport and Recreation

The Shire of Katanning officially opened is newly–refurbished aquatic facility on the 11th March 2010.  The facility has been through an incredible transformation and is a credit to the community and all involved in the development.  The local member for the region just happens to be the current Minister for Sport and Recreation the Hon Terry “Tuck” Waldron who was on hand to cut the ribbon as well as swim an inaugural lap in the beautifully re-furbished 50 meter pool. More on the opening in the ARA Journal and on-line soon!
