The Department of Sport and Recreation Pathways Program gives participants an increased understanding of the industry and develops skills that will increase their capacity to work within the sport and recreation industry. Currently the program is packaged to target:
- students who are studying in a sport and recreation related field at a post secondary level; and
- emerging professionals who have no more than five years full time experience in the sport and recreation industry.
The 2011/2012 Pathways Program has been enhanced to include sport and recreation volunteers.
The program aims to provide:
- a pathway to identify and address gaps in skills and provide an opportunity for their development and enhancement, to better fulfil their role within their organisation as a volunteer;
- prospect for personal professional development though attendance of training and development opportunities;
- opportunity to have the skills used in the volunteer role nationally accredited through recognition of prior learning (RPL); and
- opportunity to build capacity and prepare volunteers for job opportunities within the industry.
The program will provide selected participants with the following:
- Attendance at a specialised industry networking event with representatives from sport and recreation organisations;
- Three professional development workshops on varying topics;
- Assistance to complete training courses or workshops specific to individual envelopment needs;
- An official certificate of recognition.
