The results of the first stage of LIWA Aquatics engagement and trial data logging of 13 aquatic facilities with the Water Corporation have now been completed. As you read the report you will find the results very interesting as it provides a snapshot of the water use and in some cases the very inefficient use of water in aquatic industry across Western Australia. The long term goal of the partnership with the Water Corporation is to demonstrate to the wider community and other industries that the aquatic industry in Western Australia is a leader in water conservation in its facilities. The second trial in 8 facilities is now underway and the results, the problems and the breakthroughs will be reported over the next 12-18 months. Before you read this report ponder the following: There are approximately 800 showers in aquatic facilities across Western Australia and many have an unrestricted flow of water from 15 - 19 litres per minute. If all these showers are reduced to a flow of 9 litres per minute we could save up to 10 litres per minute on every shower. That is a saving of 8000 litres per minute! How long do your showers run for each day? Think of the water and energy savings across Western Australia in our aquatic facilities by undertaking this very minor and relatively cheap initiative! It is mind boggling on how much water we can save for the environment.
