At a recent meeting, the LIWA Aquatics Board unanimously supported increasing the direct funding of Watch Around Water to $10,000 for the 2010 /11.  The program has become one of the key outcomes for the Institute and the motion moved by Karin Kelly will see the funding increase by $2,500 this year.

The partnership with the Royal Life Saving Society Western Australia to deliver and evaluate the program has been a great success over the past 7 years.  Since the inception of the program there has not been a drowning in a public swimming pool in Western Australia.  The challenge for our managers again this summer is to ensure that this public awareness campaign is well promoted through the facility and that qualified staff are always on the deck when the pool is open to the public.

It is always great to see incentive ways to promote the WAW message and Josh Koontz sent through the image below on how he is tacking the issue this summer.  Well done to Josh and the team at the Exmouth Aquatic Centre.
