The development and growth of Watch Around Water is one that is critical to the aquatic industry across Australia. With the program now resourced and delivered in South Australia, Victoria and of course here in the West there is the opportunity to work collectively and share the development of resources. As with any advertising program that promotes its message in a predominately visual manner there is a need to update and importantly reinvigorate the message to its client base.
The Watch Around Water Program has been hugely successful in the manner in which it has been able to modify/influence the behaviour of parents and supervisors in our Aquatic Facilities over the past 6 years. With this in the front of mind, LIWA Aquatics is about to launch a new promotional direction for Watch Around Water. The underpinning guidelines of the program will not be changed as you cannot argue with the results and the behavioural change we have seen in our pools since the inception of the program. What will change is the up front imagery and primary supervision message which will be "Your Child Your Focus".
This message was developed for Aquatic Recreation Victoria by Life Saving Victoria through wide industry consultation and has been very successful over the past 2 seasons. In the spirit of collaboration across the states that saw Watch Around Water being provided to the Victorian aquatic industry the imagery is freely available for LIWA Aquatics to use. This will effectively see Victoria and Western Australia using the "Your Child Your Focus" message and South Australia which has only recently taken up the program using "Its' Your Job To". To ensure the new message was suited to the Western Australia industry Lauren has done wide consultation about the impact of the change and how it would be received. This consultation was overwhelming in its support for the new imagery and message to enhance and revitalise the existing program. This summer will see new posters, banners and documentation to support Watch Around Water and the message of "Your Child Your Focus". It's an exciting time for our program and LIWA Aquatics is very grateful to its major sponsors the Royal Life Saving Society Western Australia (Inc) and BHP Billiton for its assistance.

The same is required for Watch Around Water in Western Australia where the imagery is clearly emotionally based. The signage, the wrist bands and communication through staff and PA announcements play critical roles but basically our visual message has been emotive, "It's Your Job To". The Board of LIWA Aquatics has worked with our program manager Lauren Nimmo from Royal Life Saving to ensure there has been subtle changes to our message of parental supervision on a regular basis.
