The City of Cockburn hosted the 2017 launch of Watch Around Water. it was only fitting we promoted not only WAW and WAW Week but showcased one of the best examples of a contemporary aquatic recreation facilities ever built in Australia. We were joined by LIWA Aquatics President Mr Jeff Fondacaro, LIWA Board Members and industry members as well as Steve Rasdell and George Lech from our new program partners Ixom.

As we head into a new summer it is critical that as an industry we have patron safety front of mind and of course it is the WAW demographic that we focused on at the Launch. The Western Australian aquatic industry has a unique water safety record built on a strong strategic partnership between local government, private providers, Royal Life and LIWA Aquatics. But the driving force of this partnership is the industry members on the front line of supervision and engagement.
At the launch we were able to welcome an additional partner to this assist in the promotion and development of Watch Around Water. Ixom have come on board for a three-year period to assist with funding the program to ensure its continued evolution and development. Ixom have been associated with WAW in Victoria with LSV and saw the opportunity to make a difference in Western Australian and promote not only their brand but to enhance WAW.
Steve and George had flown in from Melbourne to attend the launch. Steve addressed the attendees and focused on how critical the program is in saving lives and how pleased Ixom were to be able to support LIWA Aquatics in the delivery of this critical message and looked forward to a long-term relationship. Sarah-Jayne Whiteley, LIWA Aquatics Board member and Aquatic Operations Supervisor at Cockburn ARC provided an operational perspective of the way in which the program is delivered at the new facility and the importance that both parental and lifeguard supervision.
The morning ended with coffee and then a site tour of this amazing new facility. Thanks to all for attending promoting the Watch Around Water message.
